Situated at KM 0 of the River Plate (LAT. 34°34'S LONG. 58°24'W).
Tidal port, with semi-diurnal tides, which can be notably influenced
by the force and direction of the winds.
The terminals and facilities can be grouped by cargoes handled.
a) Full container terminals:

a) Full Container Terminals:
1) Terminals 1 and 2.
Operators are Terminales Río de la Plata. Under concession for 25
years, since October 1st, 1994.
It covers 28 Ha. Or all the Basin A, Pierhead Nbr 2, Basin B (South
and West sides).
2) Terminal 5.
Depending on circumstances, RO-RO's, car carriers, or vessels with
non-containerized cargoes may be accepted.
Operators are BACTSSA (ICTC Inc. Group) Concession granted for 18
years since June 6th 1994. Can handle heavy lift cargoes of upto
120 MT with 2 Gotwald cranes in tandem It covers basin D Westside,
Northside, Pierhead Nbr 5. Total surface is 21.5 Ha.
b) Multipurpose Terminals:
1) Terminal 3.
Operators are T.P.A. (Terminales Portuarias Argentinas). Under a
concession for 25 years since November 1994.
It covers Basin B North side, Pierhead Nbr 3, Basin C Southside,
plus an area immediately West of the berths. The Fit with 2 post-panamax
container gantry cranes. Covered storage capacity for 2500 vehicles.
2 Gotwald cranes with upto 100 MT lifting capacity. Total surface
is approximately 16 Ha.
2) Terminal 4.
Operators are Terminal 4 S.A. Under a concession for 25 years as
from February 9th 1995.
It covers Basin C, West and North sides, plus an adjacent area West
of the berth.
The ex EMCYM Terminal for by-products, is also under their control.
Container handling, as well as heavy lifts,. Fitted with 1 35 MT
Droit mobile crane, and 1 100 MT Liebherr mobile crane.
c) Bulk Cargoes (grain):
1) Terminal TERBASA (Grain Terminal, ex National Grain Board
elevator).
Operators Terminal Buenos Aires S.A.. under concession for 30 years
as from December 1st. 1992. It covers Basin D Southside, Pierhead
Nbr 4, with grain elevator and adjacent truck parking space and
railways.
d) Bulk Cargoes (liquids):
1) TENANCO: It consists of 19 tanks, with a total capacity of
17.000 CBM vegetable oils. Loading rate 600 MT per Hour.
Permission to operate the Basin E has expired, and is now out of
use.
2) PROARSA:
36 stainless steel tanks and a total capacity of 8.400 CBM, on the
Westside of Basin E. The main commodity is wine, directly from railway
wagons proceeding from Mendoza.
Dock Sud.
A) Section 1:
The entrance channel is 75 meters wide. The turning basin is approximately
200 meters wide, by 387 meters.
EXOLGAN Container Terminal, on the West Side, is privately owned,
and commenced operations in 1995. It covers an area of 45 Ha. Railway
siding are available.
The berth has a frontage of 625 meters, and is presently being extended..
Maximum LOA permitted 210 meters, with a maximum beam of 32 meters.
3 X 45/50 MT Dockside Gantry Cranes and 1 X 70 MT Post Panamax Gantry
Crane.
Bonded warehouse covering 13.500 square meters. Total storage to
accommodate 10.000 full containers. Empty container yard 6.000 units.
B) Section 2:
Entrance width 90 meters, and 1.000 meters long. All vessels are
required to berth bow outward.
East side is occupied by 9 T jetties, fitted for petroleum products,
chemicals and fats, with adjacent storage tanks.
West side. The first sections are used by sand barges, then sections
9 to 14 are available for fruits and general cargoes and bulk cargoes.
The grain elevator, at section 13, with 16.000 MT storage capacity
is presently out of operations.
