Port of La Plata.

(LAT. 34°50'S LONG. 57°53'W)

There are two main installations: 1) the Grand Dock, for general cargoes, petcoke, chemicals and petroleum products, and 2) Siderar's berth at Puerto Rocca, situated at around 5 KM upstream of the Río Santiago.

1) Grand Dock: It is in line with the entrance channel, and just after the turning basin. It has an extent of about 2.500 meters, of which the first 1.200 are not used. The remaining 1.300 meters, are connected with pipe lines from the tanks on the east side. On the West side, there are also pipe lines connected to tanks, but used for chemical products. Berths 7 and 8 are occupied by Copetro petcoke terminal, and alongside, to the North, an open quay for general cargoes.

2) Puerto Ingeniero Rocca: Reinforced concrete quay, 155 meters in length, specially built to exports cold rolled coils and steel sheets from the steel mill, owned by Siderar. Situated 5 KM from the entrance channel along the Río Santiago. The channel is unlit, so navigation is only effected in daylight. The berth has two cranes mounted on rails of 30 MT lifting capacity, and 16 meters outreach. Stevedoring and lashing is carried out by Siderar personnel, however the Chief Tally Clerk, is for ship's account.
