Situated
between KMS 441 / 456 right margin of the River Paraná, (Lat 32°47’S
Long 60°43’W)
San Lorenzo and San Martín (commonly known as “San Lorenzo” in shipping),
have become the leading exporters of grains, by-products and vegetable
oils, with an annual movement of over 14.5 million tons through
the modern terminals.
From North to South, the following are the private berth and terminals:
San
Martín
1.- La Alumbrera (KM 457).
Private berth, operated by Terminal 6 S.A., but with La Alumbrera
supervision. Specially constructed for the loading of mineral
ore (copper concentrates) for the Bajo La Alumbrera Mine.
The berth consists of 5 dolphins, providing 180 meters berthing
front, with outlaying bow and stern. The total LOA allowed is
348 meters.
2.- Terminal 6 S.A. (KM 456) - North berth.
- North berth. Private berth owned by Terninal 6 S.A. Originally
built to attend the discharging of river barges, but has since
been enlarged to operate also with ocean going vessels. It consists
of 4 dolphins with 161 meters berthing front, and 2 outlaying
mooring dolphins. LOA 275 meters.
-South berth. Berthing front of 155 meters; 4 dolphins, with
2 outlaying dolphins for bow and stern mooring. Capers can load
at this terminal. Grain storage capacity is 528.000 MT (9 silos
of 52.000 MT and 10 silos of 6.000 MT, all interconnected).
3.- Quebracho (KM 454.5)
Owned by Cargill. Terminal for grains, by-products and vegetable
oils.
The berth consists of 4 reinforced concrete dolphins. Total
length is 130 meters with 2 outlaying mooring dolphins, enabling
vessels of 250 meters LOA to berth.
Loadrate 1.000 MT per hour. Silo storage capacity is 540.000
MT, grains and by-products. Storage for vegetable oils 30.000
Mt. Loadrate 900 TPH
4) Puerto Fertilizante Quebracho.
This is a new terminal, situated immediately south of the Quebracho
grain terminal. It consists of 3 dolphins offering a berthing
front of 130 meters. with 2 outlaying mooring towers, allowing
vessels of up to 270 meters LOA to berth. It is fitted with
hoppers and conveyor belts to allow grab discharge of fertilizers.
Coast guard allows vessels with 210 meters LOA maximum and 42.000
MT displacement to berth.
5) Nidera -IMSA (KM 451)
Owned by Nidera, it is a terminal for grains, by products and
vegetable oils.
The berth consists of 4 reinforced concrete dolphins, with approximately
150 meters overall frontage, with outlaying head/stern mooring
dolphins, suitable for vessels of around 250 meters LOA. Grain
cargo is loaded at a rate of 1.200 MT per hour and by products
at 700 MT per hour. Storage capacity for grains is 170.000 MT
and by products 60.000 MT.
Vegetable oils are loaded at a rate of 900 TPH, and there is
a storage capacity for 80.000 MT.
6) El Tránsito (KM 449)
Owned by Alfred C. Toepfer S.A. Berthing is effected on 4 dolphins,
with an approximate frontage of 150 meters, with outlying mooring
buoys.
Terminal grain storage capacity is 60.000 MT. Vegetable oil
storage capacity is 10.000 MT.
7) Pampa (KM 449)
This is a new terminal, owned by La Plata Cereal (Andre Group),
inaugurated March 1998.
Vessels berth on 3 dolphins, offering a berthing front of 125
meters, with outlying head and stern mooring points. Suitable
for vessels of up to 270 meters LOA, and 38 meters beam.
Loading rate is 2000 MT per hour for grains and 1600 MT per
hour by-products. The storage capacity ascends to 420.000 MT.
8) Dempa (KM 448,50)
Grain, by products and vegetable oils terminal, owned by La
Plata Cereal.
The berth consists of 5 reinforced concrete dolphins, with an
overall length of 125 meters.
Two outlying head and stern moorings. Maximum LOA 250 meters
and 32.5 meters beam.
Storage capacity ascends to 150.000 MT for grains and by-products..
Tank storage capacity ascends to 40.000 MT.
